Entry #10: Animal Testing - Do We Need It?

Animal testing is one of those things alot of people dont really think about, but it is happening more than we realize. It has been used for years in industries like makeup, medicine, and even cleaning products. The original goal was to make sure products were safe before being used on people. But now, with all the new technology we have, it kind of makes you wonder if it is still necessary.
These days, there are so many alternatives. Scientists can use computer models, fake skin, and other methods that don't involve hurting animals. It is crazy to think that we have come so far, but a lot of companies still test on animals just becuase that is the way it was always done. I understand that it may be necessary for certain medical research, but even then, there are cases where testing on animals does not actually help becuase animals don't always react to things the same way we do. So it is not always the most reliable method. On top of all that, it is very unethical. These animals go through pain, stress, and then are often put down afterward. It's risking the life of these animals for the sake of ours. For a long time we did not have the tech we have today. But now? It is an excuse towards unethical practices. Alot of companies now proudly advertise that they are cruelty free and that is something to actively look for when I shop. It might seem like a small choice, but it adds up. If more people supported brands that don't test on animals, then corporations would have no choice but to stop their cruel practices. If we can avoid harming animals then we should. If we can choose the more humane option, why wouldn't we? If people see the behind the scenes then they would actively look towards protecting these animals.
