Entry# 9 Topics in Food Quest

Image
I came across a documentary that connected with the theme we've been exploring in class. " How Ultra-Processed Food is Slowly Killing Us" .I was not expecting to sit through the whole thing, but honestly it pulled me in. It breaks down how much processed food has taken over our diets and how companies keep pushing these foods on us becuase it is easier to sell, despite it being bad for our health. I found the documentary to be very similar to films like 'Fresh" and 'Food Inc' reminding me how broken our food system really is. What stood out to me the most was how many people don't realize how processed the food they are eating is. I reflected to things I eat myself just becuase of their convience and cheap price and realized how many others do the same. If people really looked into what's going into their bodies then they would see how dangerous the products are. The video even talked about how these products are designed to be addictive, which re...

Entry #8 Cinnabun

Image
I remember coming home after a rough day at school and not expecting much to change. As I walk into my house, my sister brings this tiny, fluffy creature that I honestly had a hard time distinguishing what it was. I was caught off guard and thought it was another one of her jokes, but as she put her in my arms I instantly fell in love. Something that made the moment surreal was knowing my mom as someone who never liked pets so it almost seemed to good to be true. We named her Cinnabun (becuase she looks exactly like a cinnamon roll), but to be honest, we rarely ever call her by name. She probably has ten different nicknames and somehow answers to all of them. From the beginning she made it known she was going to run the house. She now has my mom wrapped around her sneaky little paws. She loves sneaking in our flower pots and I always find her sitting in them munching on anything that is green. Thats one of the reasons why we gave up having a proper garden (the only reason). She even f...

Entry # 7 Fresh

Image
Where does food come from? Before watching the film, "Fresh" I've never really known where food comes from. I always see labels that say 'organic' or 'grass-fed', but I did not think about the behind the scenes and what really goes down before the food reaches our plates. The film gave me a inside perspective on what really goes on, especially how it focused on portraying the profit-based food system. Farmers in fresh were determined to re produce food in healthy, clean ways for our enviroment. 'Fresh' revealed real farmers with real solutions who showed what hygenic practices look like. While watching, I actively wondered why more people are't taking the same initiative as these farmers. Although, with how profit driven practices are so engraved in our food system, it is alot harder to undo these patterns. Additionally, it shouldn't be a privelage to those who don't have access to healthy food on a daily basis. The film's tone is w...

Entry #10: Animal Testing - Do We Need It?

Image
Animal testing is one of those things alot of people dont really think about, but it is happening more than we realize. It has been used for years in industries like makeup, medicine, and even cleaning products. The original goal was to make sure products were safe before being used on people. But now, with all the new technology we have, it kind of makes you wonder if it is still necessary. These days, there are so many alternatives. Scientists can use computer models, fake skin, and other methods that don't involve hurting animals. It is crazy to think that we have come so far, but a lot of companies still test on animals just becuase that is the way it was always done. I understand that it may be necessary for certain medical research, but even then, there are cases where testing on animals does not actually help becuase animals don't always react to things the same way we do. So it is not always the most reliable method. On top of all that, it is very unethical. These anima...
